People are directionless (part 1)

Hi friend,

Just wanted to focus on one topic in this weeks email...

A reality of life: People are often directionless nowadays. Part 1

As kids, we were truly ambitious. We wanted to become everything and anything. An actor, astronaut, firefighter, judge, there was just so much we wanted to become.

This creative process of thinking and ambition, for some, fades once we grow up and morph into adults. I've met and seen many people who are my age and have no clue or direction on what they want to achieve with this life, distant from reality...

I think there a many factors that play a part in this predicament.

  • Societal pressure

  • An unknown purpose

  • Being uneducated

  • Distraction

  • Comfort

Ill explain the first 2 in this email and the next 3 in the next issue. I know your time is valuable...

Starting with societal pressure. Society is constantly evolving in ways that are different to the generation before them. This evolution comes with societal norms within groups. This could be friend or family groups. You are then expected by those around you to behave in a certain way, have similar thoughts/actions and speak about similar stuff.

Us human beings have a tendency to want to 'fit in' and so we behave the way our 'group' want us to.

What if we don't want to behave the way they do? It's a harder much lonelier path to take when we don't want to be like those around us. We know we'll find more direction and purpose if we behave the way that's fit to us personally and NOT the way our groups want us to. This may be taken the wrong way so here's an example:

Its expected of you to have a 'safe' career path in life so your doing a degree. But deep down your interest is else where. You want to be a professional chef because you feel a sense of 'purpose'. But you just cant because of the immense pressure that's on you to have a 'safer' career. You also see your friends doing degrees so you don't want to be odd.

That's one of the reasons why some people are directionless. Our need to 'fit in' outweighs our need to reach purpose.

You have to be odd to be number one” - Dr Seuss

The next factor is having an 'unknown' purpose. Why are you here? The odds of you being born are 1 in 400,000,000,000,000. So there is a clear purpose for your existence. (I'm not referring to religious purposes here. Religion is, no doubt, one purpose of life and a VERY important factor, but you need to realise you have multiple purposes)

Some individuals don't know the answer to this. And the way you need to find out is by understanding this world and understanding yourself.

Take some time off, read books and really figure out what type of person you are. What do you love doing? What can't you shut up about? What are you obsessed with? What does this world need, that you can help provide or inspire?

'We're here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why else even be here?' -Steve Jobs

Ill carry this issue on next week...

A question to ponder upon

What's one thing you would tell your younger self?

You come this far? Hope I made you think,

Haaris
